David Tierney Joins Carn Veterinary Clinic in Carndonagh

Carndonagh, Co. Donegal – Carn Veterinary Clinic is delighted to announce that experienced mixed-practice veterinarian David Tierney has joined its team, further strengthening the clinic’s commitment to providing exceptional animal care across Inishowen.

David, who grew up on a suckler-tillage farm in Athy, County Kildare, developed a love for the outdoors and working with animals early in life, inspiring him to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. He completed his veterinary studies at University College Dublin (UCD) and gained valuable experience during a placement at a practice in Milford — an experience that fostered a deep connection with Donegal and ultimately led him back to the region to continue his career.

Bringing with him 24 years of extensive experience in mixed practices across Dundalk, Carlow, and Derry, David has developed a broad skill set. He has completed advanced training in orthopaedics, herd health, ultrasound scanning, dentistry, and hoof care. He particularly enjoys farm animal surgery, small animal consultations, and orthopaedic surgery, appreciating the daily variety and the chance to meet a wide range of personalities — both human and animal!

David’s personal philosophy centres on clear communication and genuine care:
“Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”
He believes in offering owners all available treatment options and guiding them to the best decision for their animals, striving to keep care straightforward and accessible.

Reflecting on his background, David jokes that clients often assume he’s an equine expert because he hails from Kildare — the heart of horse country — although he admits with a smile that horses are not his specialty.

David now joins Carn Veterinary Clinic at an exciting time in its journey. In 2024, Carn Vet Clinic officially became part of the Inishowen Co-op group, launching a fresh, forward-thinking approach to veterinary care for the region. This innovative collaboration between Carn Vets and the Co-Op promises to strengthen the local farming community’s access to top-tier animal healthcare while offering reliable and consistent services for all animal owners across Inishowen.

The newly opened, state-of-the-art facility — featured on RTÉ’s Ear to the Ground — is fully equipped to provide veterinary services for both large and small animals, offering modern solutions while keeping the community spirit at its heart.

David Tierney’s experience, warmth, and dedication will be a tremendous asset as Carn Veterinary Clinic continues to grow and evolve, supporting both pets and farm animals throughout the Inishowen peninsula.
