Cat Care
Caring For Your New Kitten
Congratulations on your new family member! Even the smallest kitten already has its own unique personality. This is an exciting time for you and your new kitten to get to know each other.
Essential Items
There are a few basic items of equipment that you should have for your kitten:
Feeding Your Cat:
You will need two feed bowls and at least two litter trays.
Cat Litter:
Each cat in your household needs its own litter tray. It’s a good idea to have an extra litter tray as well. This ensures your cat will always have one nearby. Cats are naturally clean animals.
Kittens are easy to toilet train as they are happy to use litter trays. They will dig a hole in the litter and cover their excretions up so make sure there‘s plenty of cat litter and clean it regularly.
Cat Beds:
There’s a big choice of cat beds available but be aware, cats might pick another cosy spot to sleep in. Some will completely ignore their lovely new bed!
Cats at Play:
It’s also a good idea to get a scratch post or mat. Cats love to sharpen their claws and you don’t want them to damage your furniture.
Cat Flaps:
Cats are very independent animals. You can get cat flaps that will allow your cat to enter and leave the house themselves. There‘s even ones that read your cat‘s microchip and prevent other cats from entering.
Cat Collars:
Some people like putting collars on their cat. Collars with tags can be inscribed with your phone number on them. A small bell can prevent your cat from catching prey and hurting wildlife. If you do get a collar, make sure it has an elastic area so the cat can free herself in case the collar gets caught somewhere.
